Job Summary:

The Physical Therapy Program in the School of Health Professions at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time Assistant Professor (12MO). The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate and manage student clinical education placements and related processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and expand relationships with clinical education sites and clinical instructors.
  • Advise and support students regarding clinical education requirements, performance, and professional conduct.
  • Monitor student progress during clinical experiences and address clinical education concerns as needed.
  • Recruit, support, and communicate with clinical instructors and clinical partners.
  • Maintain clinical education records, affiliation agreements, and required documentation.
  • Collect and analyze clinical education data and assist with accreditation and assessment activities.
  • Collaborate with faculty and program leadership to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the clinical education curriculum.
  • Participate in program meetings, committees, and other activities that support the mission of the department. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctoral Degree (DPT, PhD, EdD, or equivalent).
  • New York State Physical Therapist Licensure or eligible.
  • 3+ years of full-time Physical Therapist clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical education, student supervision, or clinical instruction.
  • Knowledge of physical therapist education, clinical education processes, and accreditation standards.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience serving as a DCE, Associate Director of Clinical Education, Center Coordinator of Clinical Education (CCCE), Site Coordinator of Clinical Education (SCCE), or Clinical Education Coordinator.
  • Prior teaching experience in a physical therapist educational program.
  • Familiarity with clinical education management systems such as Exxat and CPI or comparable platforms.
  • Demonstrated record of professional service engagement in relevant organizations.
