Job Summary:

The Department of Risk Management at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Risk Management Coordinator / TH Utilization Review and Quality Assurance Senior Coordinator. The successful candidate will:
- Investigate events identified in the hospital's internal incident reports and in medical malpractice cases.
- Interview witnesses, review medical records, consult literature and regulatory standards to identify potential quality and liability concerns.
- Create succinct, literate written reports describing the investigation and findings.
- Rack and trend the types of events and cases investigated, answer questions of clinical staff about medico-legal questions involving consent, end of life care. adverse event management, and other risk management areas.
- Investigate events from incident reports, other internal sources, and medical malpractice cases.
- Interview witnesses, review medical records, conduct research, consult standards, compose reports and timelines, report incidents to NYS Department of Health when required, and facilitate root cause analysis meetings.
- Track and trend incidents and medical malpractice cases.
- Assist with discovery requests on medical malpractice cases; accept service of process.
- Assist in the preparation of Risk Management policies and departmental reports for hospital committees and administration; participation in education of staff.
